I’ve heard conservatives claim they give more to charity than liberals. But I wonder if this is because conservatives are more likely to go to church, and they are more likely to count their tithe as “charity”. Does giving to a church really count as charity?
Surely, some of it does, but I don’t think all of it does. How much money is spent to keep the church operating, and to keep these fancy buildings up? I look around my own city, and some of our nicest buildings are churches. This can’t possibly be inexpensive.
If I belong to a club, and I pay dues, is that charity? No, of course not, so why should it be charity if I give to a church I attend?

That argument might have some merit, if it wasn’t all based off a generalization of conservatives going to church. I think people are missing the point of charity. It’s meant to help others, not to have ammunition against those you don’t agree with.
I dont go to church and I give three times as much as Joe Biden to charity every year, do I make three times his salary? Nope.
And since you seem clueless, the majority of churches in this country are not Joe Osteen like churches, they are small with small congregations, the preachers salary is decided on by a committee and usually is not a whole lot. The majority of the funds are used and decided how to be used by committees for the community and outreach, such as food banks, helping the elderly and other local folks in need as well as sending money out to other countries to help the poor there.
You liberal horsesasses it has nothing to do with going to church, which most conservatives do and they do give or tithe at church but it has more to do with the fact that we work and are not on the public dole feeding from the public trough. Liberals should be happy for this, how else would they get their food boxes, gifts at the only time of the year they profess any form of faith, clothes and furniture from organizations like St. Vincent de Paul, the Salvation Army etc.
Start looking up the operating costs of some of your favorite charities. That sort of information, though sometimes hard to find is available. You might be shocked to see how much certain respected charities spend in advertising, building maintenance, salaries etc. And how little goes actually into what you would consider charity work.
Churches, at least all that I have ever been to do spend a good amount on operating costs and on missionary work. But they also do other things at have nothing directly to do with religion. Whether that be providing meals to the poor, providing transportation to the elderly, or any multitude of other community betterment projects.
Every liberal I’ve hung out with was a selfish prick. There were often conservative people that were the same but not of the same abundance. I’ve loaned money to a couple outspoken liberals with promises of being repaid & their responses are “I thought I already did” & “I’ll getcha back later”. There are generous libs too but I haven’t hung around many. I’ve never paid tithes but I’ve been through the Goodwill drop-offs a few times. I have even bought homeless people dinner. I was often criticized for giving beggars money. So to answer your question, I think conservatives are more generous. If anyone wants to down-thumb me then by all means, have fun.
It’s been known for a long time that Conservatives give more money to charity than Liberals. And that would be our own money as we see fit. Not extorted from us the way Liberals want.
Conservatives give to the church, then other charities too. And if they can’t, they do service work, since a check doesn’t always take the place of human interaction. And Conservatives are known to donate more blood than Liberals, who sit around complaining that no one is giving “their fair share.”
Our worship facility is modest , as is the compensation for those paid by the church.
The vast majority of the donations go to community programs, in the way of teen mother programs, a health clinic, tutoring, vehicle maintenance classes, computer classes and so on.
But, all of that aside, I fail to see the purpose of the claim in either direction. To me, it smacks of riding the coattails of another. Give what you wish to whom you wish and STFU about it.
I’m a Liberal, who gives as much to charity as I can.
It isn’t much, but I give. In fact, the company whose brand of cigarettes I prefer to buy most have given to charities towards Native American reservations…Building schools and otherwise enriching the lives of people who are struggling.
A local person was beaten and hospitalized with a hemotoma on his brain last month. Our community is coming together to help his family with medical bills, he has no insurance. I sold baked goods and hand-made jewelry, and gave every cent of the $140 I made to the fund.
Anyone who actively makes charity-giving some sort of contest is pathetic.
Why wouldnt you count religious orgs? Thats ridiculous. Churches, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Child Fund, Salvation Army and so on are great charitable orgs that are religious.
Not on your life
However the only reason everybody thinks they do is because they claim it as a deductible on their tax forms. Liberals, for the most part, don’t
You’ve hit it spot on – ONLY if you count church tithes as “charity.” Take out the fees to belong to their religious clubs, and cons are much more miserly when it comes to actual charity than liberals.
I don’t know about quantity but apparently we do give to charities whom are not fronting for other groups aka Planned Parenthood and calling “abortion” a “women’s health issue”!
When you take out church donations, which are really just club dues, they don’t donate more to charities.
That’s hard to believe. Rich people do in dollar amounts, but that is solely for the tax break, usually.
Thanks for making yourself look like a complete ****** moron with this question.
No. That’s a lie.
I only give money to my Church.
Is it MY FAULT there’s no Blah People at my Church?????
No they do not.
It is that they classify the things that they “do” give to as charities.
Rich conservative venture capitalists constantly find innovative ways of avoiding paying any taxes at all. One of they ways they do this is to “create” a trust, call it a charity, then claim it as a charity on their 15% tax return so that they pay less and less in taxes.
Every single Republican I have ever met takes more from society than they give, even my rich neighbors who somehow have their kids on the government food program at our local elementary school.
No, CONS do not give more to charity. They simply classify anything as a charity and then claim it on their tax returns.
Yes. Their numbers are boosted by higher instances of religious giving.
