im 14 about to turn 15 and i do chores like doing the dishwasher, cleaning up mine and my little sisters room and i baby sit my sister all the time and my parents still don’t give me pocket money!! when i was 12 i won a competition and the prize was $750 but my parents wont let me spend the money, but i won it which makes it mine! i know they have to feed me, clothe me and give me a house to live in, but i really need the pocket money.. i don’t get to buy my lunch at the canteen because i don’t have any money, and i try telling them all this but they don’t listen !! all they say is “we buy your credit so that should be enough” but $10 of credit a month isn’t actually giving me money to spend on things like, lunch at school, movies with my boyfriend or miscellaneous things…..
can you give me some ideas to try and convince them???

Chores are part of the life we live in. I find it extremely stupid that some parents PAY their children to do everyday chores around the house. I don’t see why you should clean your sisters room, though. Maybe ask for some money just when you babysit, and maybe a little less than what you would normally charge for someone else’s kid. Maybe suggest that you buy your own clothes and/or health products and get a larger allowance than more kids. That’s what my parents and I have figured out and it works fine.
Sit down with them and have a list of things like why you need to buy lunch at school, why you want to have money to go to the movies with your boyfriend. Also, if you’re going on a date with your bf, I suggest a walk in the park/beach which is FREE. Instead of a movie where you sit for two hours in the dark not being able to talk and the tickets are around TEN DOLLARS. Also, I know this sounds really mean and cruel and evil, but maybe say you are getting made fun of for not buying your lunch and people say your family is “poor” or something. Worked for me when I had a hundred year old cell phone that was my brother’s hand-me-down except people actually did make fun of but hardly at all.

It’s time for you to start babysitting. You’re old enough, have experience with a younger child and have the time.
Times are hard. Your parents give what they can. You’ll just have to get creative.
Time to stop moping about, demanding what you can’t have and take action!!!
The 750 is gone. Get over it. You have no idea how expensive it is to raise kids. Be happy they love, house and feed you. Now get to work!

I didn’t get pocket money either when I grew up, besides lunch money. So whenever I went out to hang with my friends or something, I’d ask them for money and they’d give me some spending money. Have you tried that?
